We try to comfort him with food and drink
and a soft bed for the night but
he cannot sleep and refuses to eat or drink
He says he lives in a country where
the people would rather pray
than reason
rather kill or die
than think or admit
they could be wrong
He'd seek asylum in another land
he says
but the lazy diseases, faith and belief,
are a global pandemic more infectious
and deadlier
than any Covid variant
